The town of Bongao in Tawi-Tawi has declared a state of local emergency due to the shortage of fuel supply.

In an executive order issued on April 1, 2026, Mayor Jasper Que said the town is currently experiencing a critical shortage of diesel and gasoline due to the unavailability of supply sources, which resulted in the disruptions to transportation, fishing operations, delivery of basic goods, and provision of essential government services.

The order added that the scarcity of fuel poses a serious threat to public welfare, economic stability, and the delivery of essential services, particularly affecting small-scale fisherfolk, daily wage earners, and transport operators.

With the declaration, the local government will be authorized to undertake necessary measures to manage and respond to the crisis in accordance with existing laws and regulations.

The order will remain in effect until lifted or revoked by proper authority.
