The island of Boracay never runs out of visitors and it attracts more especially during long breaks like during the Holy Week in the Philippines.
From water activities to land tours, it’s always the ideal place to unwind for locals and foreign tourists alike.
Several visitors, however, still made sure they do not forget their Holy Week traditions and religious obligations.
“Nananalangin talaga kami. Sana kahit ganito ang buhay, makaraos ng maayos at saka at sana matapos ang giyera sa ibang lugar,” said visitor Flor Bondoc.
The family of another visitor, Jo Vismonte, walked to the famous Willy’s Rock in Boracy where an image of the Virgin Mary can be seen.
“Syempre, Mahal na Araw, paggunita natin sa Panginoon, kay Hesukristo. Tapos ayun, kasabay rin ang pag-enjoy sa Boracay,” Vismonte said.
The parish in Boracay has prepared for the Via Crusis or Stations of the Cross on Good Friday.
The Via Crusis is a form of devotion of Catholics to commemorate the passion and death of Jesus Christ. Those taking part in this activity prays at 14 stations that represent Jesus’ journey to Calvary.
Rev. Fr. Francis Bolivar, parish priest of the Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary in Boracay Island, said anyone can join in the commemoration.
“Open sa lahat nang Katoliko na gustong sumama, kahit sa mga tourists na pumunta sa Boracay. Still, they have the chance to reflect this season of Holy Week,” he said.
Parties and nighttime activities will stop temporarily on Good Friday in respect to the Catholic tradition of remembering the hours Jesus Christ died.
