Residents were startled after spotting a crocodile under a stilt house in Barangay Buan, Panglima Sugala, Tawi-Tawi over the weekend.
According to a resident who uploaded a video online, it was high tide at that time when the crocodile was discovered when they pointed a flashlight to the water.
The reptile was believed to have been hunting chickens.
The crocodile reportedly retreated slowly after noticing the presence of several people.
According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the area is part of known crocodile-infested zones, and advised residents to avoid swimming or walking in the area, especially at night.
Authorities also emphasized the importance of following warning signs and reporting crocodile sightings immediately.
The crocodile is a protected species and should not be harmed or killed under the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act (RA 9147).
