The observance of Holy Week in Western Visayas was generally peaceful, from Palm Sunday to Eastern Sunday, the Police Regional Office-6 said.
PRO-6 credited this to the strategic deployment of personnel to preserve peace and order.
“Isa sa mga nakita natin ay ang ating deployment. Strategically deployed ang ating mga personnel especially sa places of convergence including na ang ating coordination sa partner agencies, and of course, force multipliers and advocacy group,” said Maj. Lailyn Sencil, spokesperson of PRO-6.
The office noted a decrease in the number of crimes and incidents during this week - 11 cases shy of the 411 cases in 2025.
At least 240 of the cases this year involved incidents in the streets, including overspeeding and wrong turns, which were main causes of road accidents.
Catholic faithful visited areas of Holy Week traditions like the ‘Pagtaltal sa Balaan Bukid’ in Guimaras Island.
Up to 11,000 people visited the Municipality of Jordan in Guimaras for the activity, according to the Guimaras Tourism Office.
Devotees also participated in the “Taltal sa Barotac Viejo,” a live reenactment of the life, suffering, and crucifixion of Jesus Christ in the Municipality of Barotac Viejo on Good Friday.
