A strong but quick earthquake at magnitude 5.4 jolted Bogo City in northern Cebu afternoon on April 6, 2026, a little over six months since a devastating magnitude 6.9 quake hit the city on September 30, 2025.
The quake was felt down south of Cebu Island, in the neighboring Province of Leyte, and even in the neighboring islands of Negros, Panay, and
Guimaras.
Instrumental intensities were as follows, according to PAGASA:
- Intensity IV - San Francisco, Cebu; Hilongos and Villaba, Leyte;
- Intensity III - Liloan, Talisay, Cebu City, Lapu-lapu City, CEBU; Isabel, Baybay, Carigara, Ormoc City, and Abuyog, Leyte; Esperanza, Masbate; Hinundayan, Southern Leyte;
- Intensity II - Kawayan, and Naval, Biliran; Roxas City, Capiz; Carcar, San Fernando, Argao, and Asturias, Cebu; Iloilo City; Dulag, Alangalang, and Palo, Leyte; La Carlota City, Negros Occidental; Silago, and Sogod, Southern Leyte
- Intensity I - Tapaz, Capiz; Borongan City, Eastern Samar; Jordan, Guimaras; Passi City, Iloilo; Aroroy, Masbate, Cataingan, Masbate; Bacolod City, Negros Occidental; Gandara, Samar
The quake pulled workers out of office buildings, brought students out to open spaces in schools, and reignited a trauma residents of Bogo experienced in the September 2025 quake that hit shortly past dinnertime.
CLASSES
Following the quake on April 6, at least two schools announced a shift in learning modality for Tuesday, April 7.

- CTU Main Campus - shift to online classes; employees to report for work
- CTU Naga Campus - shift to Asynchronous Classes through Alternative Learning Modalities
- CTU San Francisco Campus - shift to Asynchronous Classes through Alternative Learning Modalities
- CTU Daanbantayan Campus - shift to Asynchronous Classes through Alternative Learning Modalities
- CTU Moalboal Campus - shift to Asynchronous Classes through Alternative Learning Modalities
- CTU Carmen Campus - shift to Asynchronous Classes through Alternative Learning Modalities
