The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Tuesday recorded another short-lived lava fountaining at Mayon Volcano in Albay amid its third month of effusive eruption.

PHIVOLCS said the short-lived lava fountaining was monitored at the summit of crater of the volcano at around 8:39 a.m. and 9:23 a.m. 

The activity produced ash clouds that rose 300 meters before drifting west-northwest, it added. 

On Monday, state volcanologists logged another episode of short-lived lava fountaining and minor strombolian activity at the volcano, which remains under Alert Level 3, after it exhibited minor activities the previous week. 

Mayon Volcano’s effusive eruption has been going on for the 91st consecutive day, generating incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) or “uson,” and rockfalls.

PHIVOLCS reiterated its warning that entry into the volcano’s six-kilometer permanent danger zone (PDZ) is prohibited under Alert Level 3.
