A 39-year-old tricycle driver and his female passenger were injured in a shooting incident on the national highway in Koronadal City, South Cotabato.

Based on investigation, the tricycle driver was navigating the road with a passenger en route to Tantangan when the motorcycle-riding suspects approached and shot the driver three times.

The driver sustained gunshot wounds in the body while the vehicle overturned.

The passenger also sustained minor injuries.

The incident occurred just a few meters away from the South Cotabato Police Provincial Office.

Police said they have obtained CCTV footage, which is currently being verified to determine whether the driver can identify or has any knowledge of the suspects.

“Meron po tayong nakuhang mga footages sa cctv at kailangan pa po nating ipa verify sa victim kung kakilala nya o may idea siya with regards to the suspect,” Police Regional Office-SOCCSKSARGEN (PRO-12) Regional Public Information Office Chief, Major Rissa Hernaez, said.

The driver was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities recovered three empty shells of caliber .45 pistol from the crime scene.

Police have already identified a person of interest while the investigation continues.
