The fuel crisis is driving up the price of household liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which prompted several residents in Davao City to return to the use of firewood for cooking.
Based on monitoring by the Department of Energy (DOE) Mindanao Field Office, prices of 11-kilogram household LPG currently ranged from around P1,580 to P1,750 between April 1 and April 6, 2026.
This forced some families to shift back to traditional cooking methods.
“Nagkahoy mi karon kay nagbudget mi kay wala mi ipalit sa LPG kay tungod sa kamahal,” a resident, Flora, said.
An LPG retailer in Matina Gravahan said they were forced to adjust prices due to higher costs from suppliers.
“Sa karon ang presyo gyud karon sa LPG kay P1,760. Ang among customer nabawasan pud kay ang uban naanad sa P1,150. Ang amoa ganing ginansya atong niagi kay igo ra pud namo gitapal,” an LPG retailer said.
Meanwhile, the Davao City government has already created an inter-agency task force to address the impacts of the emergency socioeconomic crisis brought by the continued surge in the prices of petroleum products.
One of its tasks is to monitor and check the prices of basic goods and commodities to prevent possible profiteering amid the crisis.
