The man who allegedly shot dead a 57-year-old Lebanese national and his 53-year-old Filipina wife during a robbery in Zamboanga City was arrested in Basilan on Monday, April 13, 2026.
Zamboanga City Mayor Khymer Olaso said the arrest was a result of the intensified coordination between Zamboanga City authorities and officials of Maluso and Lantawan in Basilan.
Authorities said the couple was killed when the suspects robbed their printing and internet shop on Pilar Street on Friday, April 10.
CCTV footage showed the couple attending to two male customers who were conducting an e-wallet transaction. When the transaction was completed, one of the suspects suddenly stood up, pulled out a gun, and shot the victims at close range.
The suspects carted away around P200,000 from the e-wallet transaction.
“During the transaction yung nag-scan ng QR Code, doon na tumayo ang shooter then pinagbabaril yung dalawang biktima, kinuha din nila yung pera,” Zamboanga City Police Station 11 Commander, Capt. Abdulaziz Salahuddin, said.
“Yung nagpa-schedule, trusted na nila kasi months na yung laging naga-cash in ng big amount. So, nakuha na niya ang loob ng dalawa,” Salahuddin added.
In another camera angle, the Lebanese national was seen standing briefly after being shot and attempting to fight back.
However, the suspects managed to flee after the male victim lost consciousness. The male victim did not reach the hospital alive while his wife died on the spot.
The city government said the suspects reportedly had an accomplice who was known to and trusted by the victims.
“Kayo diyan na nagnengosyo sa Zamboanga city, hindi ko kayo pababayaan sinabi ko , magkakabanggaan tayo, hanapin ko kayo,” Olaso said.
Authorities are still pursuing the other suspects, as of this writing. Meanwhile, Olaso maintained that he would offer a P500,000 cash reward for information that would lead to the arrest of both suspects.
