Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte was sworn in as the new president of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).

Duterte will also serve as the central convenor of a newly launched coalition seeking to unite various sectors in calling for an end to government corruption.

During the PDP-Laban National Council meeting held at the party’s national headquarters over the weekend, Duterte formally took his oath as party president.

Senator Bong Go, an official of the PDP National Executive Committee who attended the meeting, said the gathering highlighted unity and a clear commitment to public service.

During the event, the Reform Alliance for Good Governance and Accountability or RAGE Coalition, a multisectoral alliance composed of various groups advocating reforms, transparency, and accountability in government, was launched.

The coalition aims to unite different sectors in calling for action against corruption, rising prices of basic goods, and alleged abuse of power.

Member groups include PDP-Laban, Partido Reporma, and Reform PH, with Duterte serving as its convenor.

In his message, Duterte slammed President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. over several issues, including flood control projects.

“Siya ang nagbukas nga mga usapin ng flood control na may nga ghost project kaya ako tumahik talaga kasi hinayaan ko na magself destruct ‘yung (bleep) na ‘yan kasi alam ko na sasabog sa mukha niya. Kapag ikaw executive, you cannot point at somewhat else for the mistakes of your administration. Responsibilidad mo ‘yan,” Duterte said.

The collation is expected to expand its membership in the coming months.
