Nearly 100 families were displaced after their houses were demolished on Veloso Street in Matina Aplaya, Davao City morning on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
According to a report by GMA Super Radyo Davao, at least 50 houses were affected by the demolition.
Jay Esperanza, sheriff of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 17, explained that the court issued a writ of demolition for the area as early as October 2024.
Esperanza clarified that the demolition followed proper legal procedures, including a series of pre-demolition conferences and the issuances of notices and a final notice of demolition to affected residents.
Meanwhile, several residents affected are prepared to file a complaint in court.
One of the residents, Mayette Caseran, said they were unable to stop the demolition after the sheriff allegedly did not listen to their claims.
Caseran added that their property should not have been included in the demolition, which is why they are determined to pursue legal action.
She also called on the government to hear their concerns, saying they are ordinary citizens who claim ownership of the land.
