Police have confirmed that a site hit by a bomb in Baguio City was an alleged illegal gambling den.
The blast occurred in the Magsaysay area early Monday, April 13, 2026, where authorities later found items linked to a local game known as “drop ball.” Police said this led them to validate reports that the place was being used for illegal gambling.
A 32-year-old suspect from Itogon, Benguet has been arrested and charged in connection with the explosion. He faces a complaint for violating the Safe Spaces Act, while authorities are preparing additional charges of multiple frustrated murder and malicious mischief.
At least 14 people were hurt in the blast, with three victims still under observation in the hospital.
Police said they have stepped up monitoring of similar establishments across the city to prevent further incidents.
“So, vinalidate nga nila kasi may mga nakita nga doon na mga gambling tools, at doon nga nalaman na gambling den nga. Mag-iikot siya (City Director) at aalamin kung may mga remaining pa na mga gambling den dito sa Baguio,” Baguio City police spokesperson PMaj. Marcy Grace Marron said.
