Authorities have arrested the man who allegedly shot two women walking in the street in Pavia, Iloilo.

The 40-year-old suspect was arrested at his residence in Barangay Gua-an in Leganes dawn on April 16, 2026.

Investigation disclosed that the suspect, Lloyd Katipunan, and the victims were workmates. The suspect worked at CCTV operator and security guard.

The woman who survived, John Shane Somblingo, was the one who identified him as the gunman.

Her companion at the time of the shooting, Divine Grace Castillo, did not survive.

Investigation disclosed further that Castillo had called the suspect’s attention several times in the past. The suspect was reportedly the subject of termination even before the shooting.

“Subject siya for termination ngunit kahapon, before natin siya nahuli, is hindi siya pinapasok doon sa kanilang tanggapan,” said Lt. Garry Tayongtong, Deputy Chief of the Pavia Municipal Police Station.

PAST WITH GUNS

Katipunan became a commander of barangay tanods in Tapaz, Capiz in 2019 but he was kicked out of service in 2021 for allegedly firing a gun.

In the same year, based on records of the Leganes Police, he was caught with a gun in the town but managed to go out of jail following a plea bargaining agreement.

In 2023, he allegedly fired shots at a fellow security guard in Mandurriao town.

In 2024, he was found to be in possession of a firearm, again, when he figured in an accident. Proceedings of this case is ongoing, as of this writing.

“Nahuli siya dahil naaksidente siya. Nakuha sa kanya (ang baril) sa local search,” said General Enrique Robles, chief of the Leganes Municipal Police Station.

Katipunan is facing charges for murder and frustrated murder.

Castillo’s family is bent on pursuing the charges.

“Panganay kasi siya (Divine) that’s why masakit sa ina niya ang nangyari sa anak niya. If ang release ng death certificate, ma-release ngayon, makapag-file tayo,” said Atty. Edward Giagone, lawyer of the Castillos, on April 16.

Meanwhile, Samblingo’s aunt, Nene, said she was not aware that her nephew has had any enemy, which was why the incident shocked them.

“Parang nabigla ako, siyempre pamangkin ko siya. Wala rin akong alam na may kaaway sya. Hindi ko rin nakikitang sumasama sa mga grupo,” she said.
