A habal-habal driver was hacked and stabbed to death in Barangay Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City.

The victim’s family found him lifeless with stab and hack wounds in different parts of his body.

Police said the incident likely happened around 8 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2026, prompting them to launch a hot pursuit operation.

According to the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO), the suspect was traced quickly and turned out to be someone the victim knew.

COCPO said the victim and the suspect’s live-in partners are reportedly siblings.

Investigators are looking into a long-standing conflict between the two as possible motive.

“Diha-diha na trace nila ang maong suspetsado kaila ra pud diay sa biktima kay pareha nila ka live-in partner managsuon man ang ilang mga live-in partner. Ugat niini ang dugay na nga bingkil (sa duha),” COCPO Spokesperson, Capt. Emilita Simon, said.

Police are also looking into the time the suspect allegedly paid less than the supposed fare for the victim’s tricycle.

Authorities added that the suspect was identified as the one who committed the crime based on witnesses’ accounts and the bloodstained clothing found at his residence.

The suspect was arrested later and reportedly owned up to the crime.

“Wala na misukol ang maong suspetsado ni-angkon man pud siya sa maong salaod pero mao lagi wala pa pud nato narekober ang hinagiban,” Simon said.

The suspect is facing murder charges.

“Kung naa man angay hisgutan nga pampamilya nga gubot hisgutan nato para dili na mu-end into grabe nga kabasulanan nga panghitabo,” Simon said.
