The local government of Tagum City has warned the public about the health risks posed by stolen industrial-grade cassava from a farm in Barangay Pagsabangan.

Based on report, up to 10 sacks of cassava weighing 60 kilos each were stolen on April 20 and 21, 2026.

Authorities said the stolen cassava is not fit for human consumption due to its high levels of hydrocyanic acid (HCA), also known as cyanide, which can be harmful if consumed.

The City Agriculture Office urged the public not to buy this type of cassava from suspicious sources, to avoid consuming this type of cassava due to health risks, and to immediately report to authorities any information or sightings of individuals selling the stolen produce.

Officials stresses that public cooperation is important in protecting public health and aiding in the investigation of the incident.
