Authorities confirmed that an elderly woman died when a truck crashed into a house and a funeral home in Alubijid, Misamis Oriental on Friday, April 24, 2026.

Police said the truck came from Lanao del Norte and was heading to Cagayan de Oro City to deliver home decorations.

However, as the truck was traveling downhill, its brakes reportedly malfunctioned, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

“Niambak ang driver ug ang helper mao to ang driver nagrabehan pud kay siguro iyang ulo,” Alubijid Municipal Police Station Deputy Station Commander, Lt. Kimberly Ybañez, said.

As of this writing, the driver is in the intensive care unit (ICU) if the hospital while his helper is already in stable condition.

Police added that the woman died when the truck hit her when it rammed into her house.

“Matud pa sa traffic investigator naa daw sa iyang gawas sa estanso nag lingkod lingkod na apil siya igo sa mga semento,” Ybañez said.

The funeral home beside her house was also damaged.

The Bureau of Fire Protection Special Rescue Force-10 said earlier that the damage to the funeral home’s formalin storage drum resulted in a chemical leak of around 200 liters.

This prompted the SRF team to isolate and secure the area and carry out hazard mitigation by diluting the chemical using water from a fire station nearby.

Authorities said the truck owner, woman’s family, and the owner of the funeral home reportedly reach an initial agreement.
