Several rice fields in Mindanao are drying up due to the hot weather that farmers can’t help but worry about their next planting season.
In M’lang, Cotabato, farmers fear they may not be able to plant again until the next cropping season after the ground has began to crack and dry up because of the extreme heat.
The rising temperatures have also affected the grass used as feed for livestock.
In Cotabato City, the local government distributed water to several barangays affected by water shortages.
The water rationing is expected to continue until May 10.
Meanwhile, farmers in some areas in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat are also struggling with planting as their cornfields and rice fields have dried up due to reduced water flow from the Allah River and the lack of rain in the area.
Farmers have urged the local government to take immediate action to address the worsening water supply problem.
