The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Davao (DENR-11) has discovered around 30 endangered Rafflesia mira flowers in the forests of Tarragona, Davao Oriental.
The flowers were found within a one-hectare area in the highlands by the Lawin Forest and Biodiversity Protection System team, together with the Mati CENRO.
Of the 30, 10 flowers were already in full bloom while others were just beginning to grow.
Authorities said monitoring and protection efforts are ongoing to protect the Rafflesia mira and preserve forest biodiversity in the Davao Region.
