Hundreds of workers, fishermen, and drivers in Northern Luzon received fuel and cash assistance during Labor Day activities as government agencies and private donors stepped in to ease the impact of high fuel prices and temporary livelihood disruptions.
In Calasiao, Pangasinan, about 150 young workers received P200 each as fare and gasoline subsidy. Local organizers said only employed youth passed verification to qualify for the aid.
In Ilocos Norte, more than 700 fishermen affected by military exercises in their waters also received assistance.
The Department of National Defense led the distribution of financial aid, while local government units provided food packs after fishermen were barred temporarily from going out to sea.
In Cabanatuan City, more than 250 tricycle drivers received free gasoline.
Each driver was given three liters of fuel through a donation effort led by a couple of social media vloggers from Gapan City, with support from local officials. Similar assistance was earlier given to drivers in Gapan.
