Bacolod City has impounded at least 40 colorum tricycles that traveled even on major thoroughfares.
Based on its monitoring, the Bacolod Traffic and Transport Management Department said the colorum tricycles were spotted on barangay roads but even on Lacson, Araneta, and several areas downtown.
At least 40 tricycles were impounded in the traffic group’s latest operation.
“Actually, sumusunod kami since natapos ang one stop shop. Nanghuli kami muli ng mga colorum. May warning na kami. Bawal ang mga traysikol sa mga zone diyan,” said Atty. Reuben Mikhail Sabig, head of the Bacolod Traffic and Transport Management Department.
Tricycles are considered colorum when they operate without a valid franchise, Motorized Tricycle Operator’s Permit (MTOP), or proper registration.
And the crackdown in Bacolod continues because there are reportedly up to 3,000 colorum tricycles in the city.
Drivers support this operation.
A tricycle driver who has used a colorum tricycle admitted to the risks.
“Isa pang toda na amin talaga. Delikado rin sa totoo lang sa byahe,” Gorgonio Gaballo, Jr. said.
Authorities remind commuters that colorum vehicles are not insured, which may cause a problem in the event it figures in an accident.
“Number one diyan, walang insurance. Kung maaksidente na siya, shoulder lahat ng driver,” said Maj. Elmer Bonilla, also of the Bacolod Traffic and Transport Management Department.
