Personnel of the fire station in the town of Miag-ao in Iloilo got the surprise of their lives when a truck carrying construction materials arrived at their doorstep.

The only problem was that the fire station did not order the items.

According to the hardware that delivered the materials, someone who introduced himself as being from the Bureau of Fire Protection called the store and ordered the construction materials worth P11,290.

Because the caller reportedly appeared credible, the store did not question the transaction.

The fire station has reported the incident to the police.

“Nagpa-blotter sa station natin. Nag-try na tawagan ang numero pero hindi siya ma-reach. So ngayon, nag-coordinate na ang pulisya sa RACU (Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit) or they could initiate rin para ma-check ang identity,” said Maj. Lailyn Sencil, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-6.

The police reminded business establishments to always verify their customers to avoid getting scammed.

“Strengthen nila and kanilang internal control mechanism. How would they know na legitimate order siya katulad ng ganitong case na nag-impersonate lang siya?” Sencil said.

This is not the first time the name of the BFP was dragged into a scam. In April 2026, in Negros Occidental, callers who identified themselves as BFP personnel called restaurants to order food.
