The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has placed the Visayas Grid under red and yellow alerts on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

The red alert status is in effect from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. while the yellow alert status is in effect from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

NGCP said a red alert status is issued when power supply is insufficient to meet consumer demand and the transmission grid’s regulating requirement.

A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.

The factors that contributed to the red and yellow alert status are the following:

  • Forced outage of TVI Unit 1 (169MW), TVI Unit 2 (169MW), PEDC Unit 3 (150MW)
  • Unavailable import from Luzon
  • High System Demand

In a post on its Facebook page, NGCP said the available capacity as of 2 p.m. on May 13 is 2,510MW while the peak demand is 2,413MW.

It said that 12 plants are on forced outage since March 2026: Four since 2025, two since 2024, two since 2023, and one since 2021.

Meanwhile, 15 plants are running on derated derated capacities, for a total of 862.3MW unavailable to the grid.
