Authorities in Iloilo City are looking into a string of theft cases that were all captured on closed circuit television (CCTV) camera.

Recent cases involved suspects stealing steel pipes that were supposed to be used to make a poultry machine.

According to the staff of a building in Barangay Camalig in Jaro, it was around 1 p.m. when they found out that the pipes have been stolen.

No security guard was on duty at that time.

“Natapos ko ang trabaho ko, pinuntahan ko sa baba. Totoo ngang may nawala, may kinuha talaga,” said Niño Montaño, one of the staff members.

Based on CCTV footage, the suspects rode a tricycle to the area. The vehicle was moving slowly until it stopped at the building. A man then went down and took three steel pipes, one after the other, and loaded them on the tricycle.

The building management has reported the incident to the police.

Based on records of the Iloilo City Police Station 3, several theft cases were also recorded in other areas and were also caught on CCTV.

Part of the investigation is to determine if these cases involved the same suspects.

“Hindi natin dini-discount na probably sila rin ang may kagagawan. Mas mabuting mag-coordinate tayo sa ibang bayan na merong insidente, baka isang grupo lang ang nag-operate,” said Capt. Mavin Laraño, chief of Police Station 3.

One of those on board the tricycle in Barangay Camalig was reportedly familiar to the police.

The Iloilo City Police Station 3 is coordinating with other police stations to identify the suspects.
