Various contraband items were seized during a surprise inspection under “Oplan Greyhound” at the Misamis Occidental Provincial Reformatory Jail in Oroquieta City.

Personnel from the Misamis Oriental Police Provincial Office and jail officials searched all cells and belongings of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).

During the operation, several contraband items were confiscated, including tattoo markers, 13 cellphones, 53 packs and three reams of cigarettes, playing cards, 10 improvised bladed weapons, and cash amounting to P58,795.

Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) spokesperson, Major Joann Navarro, said these items are considered contraband as they are prohibited inside the detention facility.

“We consider them kontrabando gihapon kay gibawal man kini like mga cellphone kay for example basin naa’y mga illegal nga transaction sa gawas gibawal kana. Dayun kaning pagpanigarilyo sa sulod detention facilities, kaning mga playing cards pwede man gud kini gamiton sa gambling nga mga illegal gambling activities like kaning kwarta, unsaon man nato ang usa ka dakong kantidad sa kwarta nga naa man kita sulod sa usa ka detention facility,” Navarro said.

PRO-10 said it will strengthen cooperation and intelligence gathering to prevent the entry of illegal items into the facility.

Navarro added that PRO-10 plan to reinforce security measures and implement new guidelines to ensure no contraband will be found in future inspections.

“Aron usab nga mas mapalig-on pa nato ang atoang mga security measures, mas makahimo pa kita ug mga lain nga guidelines o mga restrictions para sa sunod wala na gyud kita’y makuha nga makonsidera sa kontrabando,” Navarro said.
