A fetus wrapped in an eco bag was found near a bridge in Purok Salvan, Barangay San Jose, General Santos City on Wednesday, May 14, 2026.
According to the barangay, the decomposing fetus was found by a resident after noticing a foul odor in the area.
Due to its condition, authorities could not determine whether the fetus was male or female.
Barangay Council for the Protection of Children focal person Baimona Maulana Sangcalang said the fetus appeared to be around five to six months old.
“Mga around 5 to 6 months (edad isip preterm baby). Maklaro napud iyang mata niya,” Sangcalang said.
The fetus was buried immediately at a cemetery.
The Barangay clarified that the mother of the fetus was not from their community.
Committee on Social Services, Finance, and Health chairperson Councilwoman Mae Aileen Dulduco stressed that all pregnant women in the barangay are monitored closely.
“I will stand firm na wala po sa Brgy. San Jose kasi monitored po ang lahat ng buntis. Lahat ng 5 to 6 months na pregnant women natin ay pinababaan, tiningnan gimonitor talaga, gi-check. So upon monitored kumpleto naman sa awa ng Diyos definitely hindi sa amin,” Dulduco said.
Investigation is ongoing to identify those responsible for the incident.
