Authorities have launched an investigation after two human remains were found in separate locations in northern Luzon within two days.
In Urdaneta City, Pangasinan, a decomposing body of a 49-year-old man was found in an empty lot in Barangay San Vicente morning on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
A concerned citizen discovered the body and reported it to authorities. Police said the victim was a temporary resident in the area and was last seen by neighbors on May 8.
Investigators said no visible wounds were found on the body. A relative told police that the victim was a heavy alcohol drinker.
The body has been sent for forensic examination as investigation continues.
In a separate case in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, skeletal remains were found inside a bell tower in Barangay Sta. Lucia on Wednesday, May 13.
A passerby reported the discovery to authorities. Police confirmed the remains were human and found clothing, including a black sleeveless shirt and checkered shorts.
Investigators later identified the remains as a man reported missing since August 2024. Relatives recognized him through his clothes and wristwatch. They also said he had a mental disability.
The remains will undergo DNA testing as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of his death.
