A 48-year-old man was arrested for allegedly possessing several firearms in Barangay Magsaysay, Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat.

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested the suspect identified as alias “Bert” by virtue of a search warrant for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act (RA 10591).

Seized during the operation were three loose firearms, including a Springfield Garand rifle, caliber 9mm sub-machine gun, and a caliber .45 pistol, and magazines, and assorted ammunition.

CIDG said the operation was carried out after receiving information that the suspect is in possession and control of the guns without the necessary permit, license or authority to own and possess the items.

Authorities added that the firearms confiscated are not duly registered.

“This operation underscores the Unit’s commitment in accounting and removing from the streets and usage all the instruments of killing and violence- thereby, preventing crimes,” CIDG said.

“The CIDG assures the public that the Group is steadfast in enforcing all the laws, and remains unyielding in its fight against loose firearms, gunrunning syndicates, and gun-for-hire groups across the country,” CIDG added.
