Long lines greeted registrants on the last day of voter registration for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on Monday, May 18, 2026.

At a registration site at a mall in General Santos City, one of the factors encountered by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) that delayed the process was the insufficient number of copies of identification cards of registrants.

“Mao nang gina-remind namo sila before muadto diri, magdala sila og ID or photocopy sa ilang ID para derecho-derecho,” GenSan Acting Comelec Officer Melvin Quiñanola said.

Most of those who registered were students.

“Magpa-register po para magka-ID,” a resident, Angel Ganson, said.

Others also sought to reactive their registration records.

“Nagsakit man gud ko… usa lang ka election… nawala na sa listahan,” Noel Indus, a resident who wanted to reactivate his records, said.

“Usually, kaning late nga mga nagparehistro, mga transient ni sila sa Gensan. Ang iba diri na nakapuyo six months pataas, diri pud nagatrabaho ang iba. Mas daghan karon mga estudyante,” Quiñanola said.

Meanwhile, similar crowds were reported in Cagayan de Oro City.

The poll body said since the registration opened in October 2025, COMELEC 2nd District already recorded more than 15,000 registrants, more than half of whom have already undergone ERB (Election Registration Board) hearings.

“Madungagan ni karon siguro mo lapas ni siya ug mga 200 kapin karon ubay-ubay gyud ta. Nag adto man ta sa mga skwelahan para sa SK particularly,” CDO COMELEC 2nd District Election Officer, Atty. Ramil Acol, said.

In Davao City, only a few registrants turned up on the final day.

COMELEC conducted satellite registrations in barangays in previous weeks.

The poll body said preparations are now in place for the BSKE in November 2026.
