The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has approved 17,443 applications for registration in Iloilo City from October 2025 to March 2026 for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in November 2026.

As of this writing, there are 306,367 registered voters in the city, and this number is expected to go bigger as COMELEC adds to it more qualified registrants.

Registration for BSKE closed on Monday, May 18, 2026.

COMELEC Iloilo said there is no word of a possible extension, at least as of this writing.

“So far, walang ina-announce ang Manila na merong extension, so kino-consider natin nga itong last day,” said Jonathan Sayno, Assistant Election Officer at the Commission on Elections in Iloilo City, on May 18.

On the last day of registration, COMELEC Iloilo targeted to register 1,500 voters.

Among those who processed their registration only on the last day were Davy dela Cruz and Lerma Cachuela.

Dela Cruz, a security guard, said his work schedule made it difficult for him to go to the COMELEC and request for a transfer of his registration.

“Busy kasi… hindi kami (makalabas) kasi security kasi ako. HIndi kami basta-bastang maka-out,” he said.

Cachuela, a senior citizen, said she actually thought the last day would be on May 30. She said she was thankful her child reminder her of the May 18 deadline.

“Akala ko nga sa (May) 30 pa ang last day… ngayon na pala. Mabuti nalang at nasabihan ako ng isang anak doon sa La Paz,” she said.

In neighboring Bacolod City, only up to 1,000 applicants were entertained on the last day of registration.

This is because COMELEC Bacolod only has three biometric capturing machines.

“Hindi tayo maka-accommodate sa kanila so we have to cut off. Sa ngayon, instead of 800, nag-extend tayo 1,000, on top of the senior citizens and PWD na hindi tayo nagbigay ng numbers,” said Atty. Kathrina Trinio-Caña of COMELEC Bacolod.

Among those who failed to beat the deadline is Queennelyn.

“Busy talaga at ngayong last day, dumaan kami sa barangay kasi akala namin need pa ang certificate of residency,” she said.

As of April 21, 2026, there are 351,000 registered voters in Bacolod City.
