Animal rights advocates are seeking justice for a cat that sustained burns after hot water was reportedly poured on the animal in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
The hot liquid hit the cat in its right hind leg and even reportedly penetrated to the bone.
When rescued, the cat could barely move. It suffered third degree burns.
“Third degree ang natamo niya. May medication sa healing. Ang kanyang tama, sa right side ng kanyang paa,” said CJ Bertol, the one who rescued the cat.
The cat is being treated at a rescue center in Bacolod City, as of this writing.
Bertol said whoever poured the liquid on the cat must be made to answer for cruel act, a goal that may be difficult to meet because no one reportedly saw the incident.
“Wala kasing nakakita kung sino ang bumuhos,” he said.
Dr. Janine Sortu, Asst. Veterinarian at the Bacolod City Veterinary Office, said mistreating animals has corresponding penalties under the country's Animal Welfare Act.
“The suspects or those who did this to the cats or the dogs, mayroon siyang imprisonment time at penalties kung ma-charge; if ma-confirm; P10,000 or six months in jail,” she said.
