A 20-year-old man died after he was allegedly beaten by several men and later figured in an accident while heading home on board his motorcycle in Kidapawan City.
Video footage showed the victim being chased by a group of men before he was cornered in a motorcycle parking area and mauled.
The victim managed to flee by driving home to Barangay Magpet, however, he figured in an accident along the way.
He was brought to a hospital but died while undergoing treatment.
According to the victim’s mother, her son went to a bar to meet his girlfriend.
She claimed that the conflict began when her son punched a man who allegedly harassed his girlfriend. This led to the chase and mauling.
“Naalimpungawan siya. Gisumbag niya sa ilong, nagkadugo. Mao tong migawas na sila dayon. Misibat na akong anak. Pag-abot sa gawas, didto na siya gigukod og pila ka tao. Didto na siya na-korner, giharangan, gipalibutan na siya,” the victim’s mother, Elsa Limasa, said.
Limasa believes the injuries her son sustained caused the accident.
“Siyempre, daghan na kaayo og dugo, pag abot niya sa may Brgy. Mateo, wala ka kabalo, nagbarag-barag ang iyang lakaw kay ginasundan man sa iyang uyab. Didto na, murag gibangga sa gamay nga poste, gibangga lang niya ang iyang motor didto, nakatindog gihapon ang motor, nahapla siya dito, nahulog ra siya sa kanal,” Limasa added.
Police said the cause of death was head injury, based on medical findings.
Because of this, the nine men who allegedly assaulted the victim and appeared before the officials of the local government cannot yet be charged with homicide.
“Depende, kasi yung altercation na nangyari doon sa inuman, accordingly, itong namatay ang unang sumuntok doon sa mga binatilyo. Imbestigahan pa natin,” Kidapawan City Police Chief, Lt. Col. Argie Celeste, said.
The victim’s family has requested an autopsy to determine whether the cause of death was the accident or the beating.
“Ipa-autopsy gyud namo kay Ilang gipalabas lagi, lahi kay kato lang, aksidente gyud ang nahitabo dili gyud namo madawat nga aksidente kay gikan na didto, kulatado na siya. Panawagan namo, hustisya gyud sa akong anak,” Limasa said.
