A smoke hand grenade was found floating in a creek in Maigo, Lanao del Norte.

Authorities said a farmer found the grenade while checking fish traps in the creek.

Personnel of the Maigo Municipal Police Station retrieved the grenade and conducted technical assessment and proper explosive ordnance disposal.

Police are investigating who owns the grenade and how it ended up in the area.

According to the Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10), the item recovered was a smoke or incendiary grenade containing white phosphorus.

PRO-10 said it is used to create thick smoke to conceal troop movements, for target marking, or sometimes as cover during escape.
