Authorities have retrieved the body of one of the two elderly women reported missing after a portion of the sanitary landfill in Barangay New Carmen, Davao City collapsed on May 20, 2026.

According to a report by GMA Super Radyo Davao, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) said the victim, a 78-year-old woman, was found around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Her remains were brought to a funeral home on Torres Street.

Meanwhile, search and retrieval operation continues for the other senior citizen who remains missing, as of this writing.

It can be recalled that a 31-year-old man died and two senior citizens were reported missing after tons of garbage slid down toward houses built in the lower area when the back portion of the landfill gave in.

Residents living near the area were evacuated for safety reasons and expressed concern that they may no longer be allowed to return to their homes and could lose their livelihood after the incident.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Davao (DENR-11) has already suspended the disposal of waste to allow the local government to implement slope stabilization measures and other recommended actions.
