At least 10 families in Iloilo City and Bacolod City survived a weekend fire that hit their homes in separate incidents.

The fire in Iloilo razed three fires in Barangay Balantang in the Jaro District, displacing six families or 18 individuals.

The fire also affected a barber shop, ice cream store, a clothing store, and cellphone repair shop.

The structures were made of mixed materials.

The Nastor family who owned the barber shop also lost seven cats to the fire.

“Paglabas ko ng pintuan, sabi ng tao may sunog sa baba. Then tumakbo ako, kumuha ako ng fire extinguisher doon sa likuran ng kanilang bahay. Pag-spray ko wala na, malaki na ang apoy,” said Joel Nastor, one of the survivors.

The damage to property was pegged at P273,000.

Meanwhile, in Bacolod City in neighboring Negros Island, a fire hit a house in Barangay Malinong, Victorias City.

The house was owned by the Pante family but was occupied by four families.

The fire broke out just as residents in the area were celebrating a fiesta.

Investigators said the fire, which started on the ground floor, spread quickly.

Damage to property was pegged at P2.8 million.

“Under investigatiion pa ang ating cause of fire. May mga conductor. Hindi pa natin matiyak kung intentional ang nangyari, kung ano talaga ang pinagmulan,” said FO1 John Jeff Basa, chief investigator of the Bureau of Fire Protection in Victorias.
