A 42-year-old woman was found dead after she was believed to have drowned during a flood and carried away in a river in General Santos City.
Residents discovered the victim’s body along the Buayan River in Purok 8, Barangay Batomelong, and covered it with banana leaves.
According to residents, they were gathering driftwood carried by floodwaters when they noticed the body.
Responding barangay officials said the victim’s body was already in a state of decomposition.
Authorities also observed injuries on the body.
“Wala nay buhok, nakiskis ang ulo, nabinlan lang gamay tapos ang iyang kamot, napudpud ang tudlo sa iyang kamot,” Barangay Batomelong Committee on Dagadaban Chairman, Councilman Abdul Hamer, said.
The incident was reported to the police and the Regional Forensic Unit-12 Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO).
Investigators identified the victim later as a resident of Barangay Upper Biangan in Malungon, Sarangani.
The victim had been missing since evening on Sunday, May 31, 2026. Authorities believe she was swept away by floodwaters while crossing a creek and was eventually carried downstream to a river in General Santos City.
“Katung Sunday sa gabii, mao tung nahitabo nga dunay kusog nga ulan, gawas diri siguro kusog didto sa may Malungon area, so naay baha mga ing ana. Matud sa (ka live-in), nagtabok daw, ngitngit na. The victim’s remains have been turned over to her family.
Authorities reminded residents crossing rivers to remain vigilant, especially during heavy rains.
