Uncollected garbage has piled up along the highway in several barangays in Davao City since evening on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
Trash was seen at several collection points along Quezon Boulevard.
According to an official of one of the barangays, the garbage was not picked up by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) garbage trucks.
The barangay said it has already implemented measures to prevent garbage from piling up at collections points amid the landfill problem.
They have been using a barangay-owned truck to collect and store waste temporarily.
“Ang among basura para dili lain tan-awon, gibutang na lang namo sa truck. Wala namo gibaba kay among giingnan ang mga tao nga limit lang sa ba,” Barangay 31-D Chairman Nathaniel Gaviola Rapal said.
Along the road in Barangay 21-C, several meters of the roadside shoulder are already occupied by piles of garbage.
According to a resident, CENRO trucks regularly collects garbage truck. However, it was reporter that no collection was carried out on Tuesday night.
“Karon lang man na uy, karon lang man na nahitabo nga walay truck. Ginakuha man na adlaw-adlaw. Wala man kay mga tao diri sa blvd, dili man na kay sa 21 lang na nga basura, sa tanang brgy naman siguro na,” a resident, Marilyn Cortes, said.
An official of Barangay 21-C said anyone has reportedly been dumping garbage in the area, causing a large buildup of waste along the highway.
The official has already contacted CENRO to inquire about the current status of garbage collection services in the area.
“Ang giingon sa CENRO nga panangkamotan daw nila ug sa City Mayors nga makuha gyud daw karong adlawa ang basura,” Joenard Gabrillo, an official of Barangay 21-C, said.
Residents are also urged to practice waste segregation.
“Kung dili pa kinahanglan nga malabay, ipadaplin lang sa, tipigan lang sa sa kilid. Kadtong mabaho gyud nga wastes nato ato pud og pangitaan og pamaagi nga malubong nga dili pud manimaho, magcomposting ta sa panahon karon,” Gabrillo added.
The local government has yet to issue a statement explaining why the garbage has not been collected since Tuesday night.
It can be recalled that the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) in Davao suspended the operations at the Davao City sanitary landfill following the trash slide on May 20, 2026.
