Authorities have closed Lake Holon in T’boli, South Cotabato temporarily following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck off the coast of Sarangani on Monday, June 8, 2026, and reported landslides within Mt. Melibengoy and surrounding lake area.
In a public notice, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-SOCCSKSARGEN (DENR-12) announced that all visitors and trekking activities to Lake Holon are suspended temporarily.
DENR-12 said the temporary closure aims to ensure public safety while concerned agencies conduct a thorough assessment of the damage caused by the tremor and evaluate potential hazards in the area.
The closure will remain in effect until further notice and until authorities determine that the area is safe for public access.
“We respectfully request everyone’s understanding and cooperation. Updates regarding the reopening of Lake Holon will be announced through official channels,” DENR-12 said.
