A dog trapped beneath the rubble of a structure that collapsed at Prudencio Mariano, Sr. Integrated School in Glan, Sarangani was rescued following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck on Monday, June 8, 2026.
In a social media post, the Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) said the dog was left buried under a large concrete slab when part of the structure gave way during the powerful tremor.
AKF said while residents managed to evacuate to safety, the dog was left trapped beneath the debris.
However, two rescuers removed the rubble and reach the frightened dog after hearing its cries for help from underneath the wreckage.
The dog was pulled out alive eventually.
“In the middle of fear, destruction, and chaos, these two heroes chose compassion. They reminded us that every life matters — including those who cannot call for help in words,” AKF said.
“As we respond to disasters, let us remember the animals who suffer alongside us. They, too, need saving,” it added.
