Authorities in Iloilo are investigating cyclists who were caught on camera using the fast lane on the highway in the town of Pavia.

The fast lane, situated in the inner lane of the road, is meant for four-wheel drive vehicles and cyclists are supposed to use only the outer lane.

The video was taken on June 4, 2026 in Barangay Cabugao Sur.

Authorities will call the cyclists to the Public Safety and Traffic Management Office (PSTMO) once they are identified.

Atty. Gaudioso Geduspan II, Director of the Land Transportation Office (LTO)-6, said what the cyclists did was both dangerous to them and to other motorists.

In fact, the June 4 video showed one cyclist losing balance after the four-wheel vehicle they were trailing made a u-turn.

“Malaking peligro sa nagbibisikleta at malaking peligro rin sa four-wheele vehicles. These licensed drivers, they should know where the bicycles should be on the road,” Geduspan said.

A cyclist, AC Porcadilla, said they are disappointed of what their fellow cyclists did because it would affect the reputation of the cycling community.

“Medyo dismayado rin kasi, syempre, kapwa biker rin namin. Sumunod lang sila sa bike lane para malayo sa disgrasya at respeto rin sa iba,” Procadilla said.

In the absence of a bike lane in Pavia, the town’s PSTMO advised cyclists to take the outer lane of the road.

Traffic personnel are also keeping an eye on cyclists.

“Nagde-deploy kami ng personnel sa area lalo na diyan kasi maraming naaaksidente. Pagsasabihan talaga nila ang cyclists na sa gitna dumadaan. Meron tayong ordinance na mag-head gear sila,” says Rolex Refugio, Traffic Auxiliary Head of the Pavia PSTMO.
