With the ongoing suspension of operations at the sanitary landfill in Davao City, small businesses located near the areas where residents were forced to dump their garbage in one of the barangays are now affected.

After the suspension order was enforced by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Davao (DENR-11), several small businesses situated near areas where residents dumped their garbage have been affected.

In Barangay Cataluan Pequeño, trash has piled up at a road intersection.

According to Roxane Yosores, she no longer has customers buying her rice cakes.

“Siyempre sir ang mga customer alanganin na muhunung kay makasimhot sila og baho unya naa pay mga langaw, maapetuhan ang amung baligya,” Yosores said.

Instead of displaying her fish for sale, Geraldin Manti now keeps them inside an ice box.

“Ang akung isda ginabutang og ice box kay sa pag-display nako dagko man gud langaw, ang langaw dili pa gyud normal nga langaw kamang green green na ba,” Manti said.

The vendors affected said they are aware that dumping garbage in the landfill is not yet allowed, prompting them to make an appeal.

“Siyempre kung nagkaproblema didto aksyunan unta nila kung unsay dapat buhaton ani,” Manti said.

“As of now wala ba gyud tay labay sa landfill sa atung mga basura so gipanawagan ang tanang mga constituent nga unta i keep natu usa ang atung basura sa tagsa  panimalay ug i observe natu ang atung proper segregation sa atung mga basura para i-lessen ang basura nga magawas sa atung panimalay,” Barangay Secretary Maricel Reguita, added.
