Two people died while one sustained serious injuries in separate hacking incidents in Leyte and Cebu.

The incident in Leyte involved a 45-year-old man who was hacked to death by his 62-year-old stepfather.

Investigation showed that it was the stepson who, while drunk, allegedly tried to hack a dog. His stepfather reportedly tried to stop him but the stepson did not listen. Instead, he turned his attention to his stepfather and hacked him first, hitting the old man several times.

The old man eventually managed to wrestle the bolo from his stepson and, out of anger, retaliated by hacking him several times, killing him eventually.

Authorities found the stepson lifeless outside their residence in Barangay Naulayan in Matag-ob.

They also found the 24-inch bolo used in the crime at the scene.

The stepfather has been arrested and is facing homicide charges.

Meanwhile, in Dalaguete, Cebu, a 59-year-old man was hacked to death by his 30-year-old house guest.

The guest, the suspect in the case, had stayed at the victim’s house in Barangay Balud for two days and was sleeping when the victim arrived and reportedly slapped the suspect’s bed.

The suspect was awakened, startled, and drank water when the victim allegedly challenged him to pull his bladed weapon out.

It was at this point when the suspect hacked his host and even ran after him outside. CCTV footage captured the suspect catching up with the victim by the road hacked him more.

The victim did not make it to the hospital alive.

The suspect was arrested later and told the police that he hacked the victim out of anger and frustration that he was startled awake.

The victim and the suspect were convicted in the past for another crime.

Still in Dalaguete, a 72-year-old man ended up in critical condition after his 55-year-old neighbor hacked him in the neck with a bolo.

The suspect was arrested quickly.

The Dalaguete police said the suspect may not have been in his right mind because of alleged addiction to marijuana.

“As per pang-imbestigar nato sa area, kanang suspect mura’g nadaot na ang hunahuna kay sige man Marijuana, unya na-priso pud gani sya mura’g karon gyud tuiga, di pa lang dugay, kay nagda-da siya og hinagiban,” said P/Maj. Vincent Zozobrado, chief of the Dalaguete Municipal Police Station.
