Four houses were damaged after a waterspout hit a coastal barangay in Davao City evening on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
The roof of the house of Nurgennah Hadgigany was ripped off after strong winds hit Barangay 23-C Boulevard at past 10 p.m.
The strong wind was believed to have come from the waterspout spotted over the sea near the area, which dissipated after a few minutes.
Hadgigany said they were on the second floor of their house when the roof at the third floor was ripped off.
“Na-trauma ako, biglang lumakas ang hangin at saka nakarinig ako ng malakas… at saka parang nag-ano sa mga kapitbahay ko, parang bomba,” Hagigany said.
No one was reported hurt in the incident.
The roofs that were blown off landed on the road and blocked traffic, prompting authorities to work quickly to clear the road.
Electricity in the area was restored shortly after the outage caused by the incident.
“Katong naay atop nga nagatanggal, gi-rescue namo sila. Mag-temporary sa sila kung naa silay paryente, didto sa sila. Dili sa pwede puy-an ang ilang bahay, mahadlok ta kay naa pa may live wire. Around 3 o’clock in the morning, nag-asikaso dayon ang atung DAVAO Light, nag-rescue dayon sila with CDRRMO,” Barangay 23-C Boulevard Committee on Disaster Response, Councilwoman Noraine Maca, said.
The barangay said four households sustained partial damage.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) has assessed the situation to determine the help needed by the four families affected.
