Authorities served the Office of the Ombudsman’s order reimplementing the dismissal of Barangay Pagatpat, Cagayan de Oro City Chairman Achilles Babaran.

Personnel of the Cagayan de Oro City Legal Office and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) served the order morning on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, but Babaran was not present at the barangay hall.

The document was received by the barangay secretary.

The order stipulates Babaran’s dismissal from office, the forfeiture of his retirement benefits, and his disqualification from holding any government position in relation to charges of grave abuse of authority and grave misconduct.

The Ombudsman also clarified that Babaran’s motion for reconsideration was denied, paving the way for the issuance of the order of reimplementation of his dismissal.

In a statement, Babaran expressed his gratitude to his supporters.

He said he is saddened and surprised, saying the allegations have been resolved by the Court of Appeals in previous years but resurfaced suddenly in time for the 2026 barangay elections.

He said he respects the law but will continue to seek legal remedies to protect his rights and ensure that the case will be resolved fairly.

On Thursday, June 18, councilman Jude Fuentes took over as barangay captain and took his oath before Mayor Rolando Uy.
