President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. flew to the Visayas on Monday, June 22, 2026, to inaugurate and check infrastructure projects in Bohol and Cebu.

Marcos first visited the town of Mabini in Bohol to inaugurate the Mabini-Cayacay Small Reservoir Irrigation Project.

The project is expected to provide irrigation to four barangays in Mabini and a barangay in neighboring town of Alicia.

Up to 500 hectares of farmland and 700 farmers are expected to benefit from the project.

“Tulungan ang nga magsasaka na matagal nang umaasa… umaasa lang sa ulan upang mapalago ang pananim. Kapag pabago-bago ang panahon, matagal ang tagtuyot o kulang ang ulan, kayo ang naaapektuhan,” Marcos told farmers who attended the inauguration.

Maros also said that the project is part of the government’s preemptive response to the expected very strong El Niño that will affect the country in the new few months.

Rito Muring, president of the Mabini Cayacay Irrigators Association, said the project will benefit their farms and, in turn, their livelihood, because they only used to just wait for rain.

“Kinadakoan gyud ni og tabang namo, sir, kay sa panahon nga wa pay irrigation, maghuwat ra gyud mi og uwan. Kining lugar sa Mabini, talagsaon rani aboton og normal nga uwan mao nang moingon mi’s Mabini, makauwan rami og naay bagyo. Sa pagkakaron nga naa na gyud ni siya, nanghinaot ko makahatag ni’g maayong pangunabuhian, he said.

From Bohol, the President flew to Cebu and visited the Metro Cebu Expressway in Barangay Cantao-an in the City of Naga.

He inspected Segment 3A, 4.55-kilometer portion of the expressway.

He said that based on briefing with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DWPH) and the project contractor, it will just be a matter of time before residents can use the four-lane road.

This is seen to benefit more than 3,000 industrial workers living in the area.

According to the contractor, as of June 22, 2026, the road’s completion rate is at 62.79 percent. What needs to be completed are the permanent rehabilitation, slope stabilization, drainage, and environmental protection works.

Marcos instructed DPWH to finish the project by July 2026.

Joining Marcos in Cebu are DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, Trade Secretary Christina Roque, Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro, and Tatsuya Mori, the president of an industrial company based in the City of Naga.

The company has 4,000 workers and 3,000 of those live in Naga.

Meanwhile, DPWH-7 said it is willing to meet with families in the area who reportedly have not received compensation for the project’s right of way.

Up to 120 families and houses were affected by the road project.
