Tourism in Glan, Sarangani has been paralyzed by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck the province on June 8, 2026.
A beach resort, for one, has suspended operations for one month after several of its rooms were damaged, which affected several employees.
"Apektado pud among duty. May-duty kami pero skeletal lang po. Nagbigay po ng ayuda ang may-ari, yong boss naming,” a resort staff, Julito Dela Cerna, said.
According to the Municipal Tourism Office, around 500 tourism employees from both accredited and non-accredited establishments in the town have been affected.
A situational report is being completed to facilitate the provision of assistance to those who lost their jobs.
"Yung mga accredited tourism establishment naman ma'am, as far as per Regional Director po namin, may assistance silang matatanggap from DOT. Pero ang mga non-accredited establishment, since hindi pa sila naka-accredit, DOT 12 will help us po coordinate with DSWD at DOLE sa mga empleyado, and if may tulong pong maibigay ang national government doon sa mga establishment sa mga damage sa tourism industry po,” Municipal Tourism Office Supervising Tourism Operations Officer, Rhoa Wadingan, said.
Meanwhile, at least 45 families are also staying temporarily in tents by the road in an upland area after their houses collapsed when the quake struck.
The families affected said they are afraid to return home due to strong aftershocks.
"Kung magkusog ang ulan ma'am, may posibilidad na magguho ang buntod, madala akong balay ma'am. Nagdagan mi diri kay safe man, layo sa dagat,” a resident affected, Jamaica Japil, said.
