In another case of violence involving students, a Grade 9 student in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental landed in the hospital after he was stabbed by a Grade 10 student.
The victim sustained a wound in the stomach.
The incident occurred outside the Julio Ledesma National High School on June 23, 2026.
Both students are 17 years old.
The police said the victim was still able to tell his teacher that he received a threat. The teacher reportedly advised him to not leave school but the student still went out of campus after class.
This was when the suspect stabbed him with a bladed weapon.
Police said the victim was with his group of friends during the incident but it was only him that the suspect attacked.
“Ang victim, involved siya sa grupo-grupong away. May sinabi siya na ang kanilang kaaway ng grupo is nandyan raw sa mall. On his way there, nasaksak siya ng suspek, which is also a minor,” said Lt. Col. Joem Malong, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office in Negros Island Region.
Capt. Rodney Sarona, Deputy Chief of the San Carlos City Police Station, said the suspect told authorities that it was the victim who allegedly punched him first and that he only retaliated.
“Bale ang biktimang ito, hinabol raw niya ang suspect. May nangyari raw na suntukan, gumanti ito sa suspect,” Sarona said.
The city police said security inside and outside of the high school will be heightened.
“Iyan ang isang concern, especially sunod-sunod na sya. Nakita natin ng may something sa mga kabataan. We have to review,” Malong said.
The school has not issued a statement, as of this writing, but the Department of Education (DepED) in NIR said it has called to a meeting the parents of both victim and suspect.
The incident in San Carlos City came in the heels of the school shooting in Tacloban City that left three students dead and several others injured on June 22, 2026.
The two suspects in that incident are both minors, 14 and 15 years old, who got hold of guns.
Authorities are looking into personal grudge that may have stemmed from bullying as possible motive in the shooting.
“Further investigation indicates that the incident may have stemmed from a personal grudge allegedly rooted in school bullying,” the Tacloban City Police Office (TCPO) said earlier.
The 15-year-old student has undergone inquest proceedings for the criminal charges he is facing. He allegedly used a .38 caliber pistol.
The other minor suspect is under the custody of authorities and will be made to undergo an intervention program.
