Separate robbery incidents at gadget shops in Davao City and Tagum City were captured on security cameras, with suspects using vans as getaway vehicles and carting away millions worth of gadgets and cash.
In Davao City, three suspects broke into a gadget shop on Agton Street in Barangay Toril Proper around 3:23 a.m. on Wednesday, based on CCTV footage.
The suspects were seen taking gadgets one by one and putting them into the bags they brought with them.
The suspects ignored the sound of the store’s alarm system.
Within just two minutes, the gadgets displayed on the shelves were carted away by the suspects.
The store remains closed, as of this writing, as police are investigating the incident.
According to the Toril Police Station, up to 101 units of high-end brand cellphones worth over P1.8 million, along with P24,500 in cash, were stolen by the suspects.
Based on other CCTV footage from the area, eight suspects were seen riding a van during the incident.
“Ongoing ang backtracking nila, review sa CCTV footage ug nakig-alayon sila usab sa mga neighboring stations or provinces nga adunay similar incident,” Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Spokesperson, Major Ma. Teresita Gaspan, said.
Less than an hour after the incident in Davao City, another gadget shop in Barangay Magugpo East, Tagum City was robbed at around 4:37 a.m. when a white van arrived carrying the suspects.
Police said the suspects used tools to break the padlock, while one of them reportedly turned off the lights before they easily forced open the roll-up door.
Three suspects then entered the store and quickly carted away gadgets before fleeing.
According to the Tagum City Police Station, around P1.4 million worth of gadgets and P44,000 in cash were carted away by the suspects.
“Malamang naka-van man sila, so organized ni sila nga grupo,” Tagum City Police Station Chief, Lt. Col. Edgardo Bahan, said.
The owner of the shop has offered a P100,000 reward while the city government offered another P50,000 for any valid information that could lead to the identity and whereabouts of the suspects.
“Karong buntag, gipatawag ta sa atong mayor sa Tagum City kay nag-offer siya og P50,000 sa kinsa tong makahatag sa impormasyon nga makatudlo kung asa ning tawhana ni, naa siya’y madawat nga P50,000 gikan sa Tagum LGU,” Bahan added.
The suspects in the separate incidents were reportedly riding the same van. It was also observed that one of the suspects in both incidents has a tattoo on his hand.
