A nine-year-old boy died after he fell from a farm tractor and was struck by its rotating blade while plowing a field in Barangay Amistad, Tayug, Pangasinan, police said.

According to the Tayug Police Station, the tractor was moving when the incident happened.

Police said the driver had warned five children, including the victim, repeatedly to stay away from the tractor.

However, while the driver was plowing the field, he allegedly did not notice that the boy climbed onto the rotor. The child reportedly slipped and accidentally came into contact with the rotating blade.

The driver rushed the boy immediately to a hospital but the child was declared dead on arrival.

The driver was taken into police custody as part of the investigation.

Police said the driver has already met with the victim's family and reportedly promised to provide financial assistance to the bereaved family.

Authorities are still investigating the incident.

As of press time, GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon is still trying to obtain statements from both the victim's family and the tractor driver.

Police also reminded parents to supervise their children closely, especially around heavy farm equipment.

"Sana po bantayan natin itong mga anak natin. Dapat nandoon lagi 'yung patnubay at paggabay ng ating mga parents," PMaj. Ronnel Balangcod, officer-in-charge of the Tayug Police Station, said.
