A 66-year-old man has gone missing after the shanty he was staying at was reportedly swept away floodwaters at a river in Barangay Maloh, Siaton, Negros Oriental.
Personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and local rescue teams searched for the man after the incident on June 29, 2026 but did not find the man.
The search and rescue operation continues, as of this writing.
According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the man lived alone in the hut while his wife and children reside in another house located away from the river.
In a video posted by a content creator, the hut can be seen being carried away by the flood.
The man’s family has yet to issue a statement, as of this writing.
Floodwaters also nearly swept several vehicles away.
Meanwhile, around 10 houses were affected by flooding in Barangay Mantuyop.
The national highway was also flooded.
According to a resident who uploaded a video online, the flooding happened suddenly, with waters nearly overflowing.
Trees such as balete, bamboo, among others, near the creek were also affected, along with some animals that were swept away by the flood.
Flooding has subsided.
MDRRMO and concerned barangays have started assessing the areas affected.
