At least 57 families were moved to a gymnasium in Barangay Maligo, Polomolok, South Cotabato, over the weekend due to the threat of landslides and possible landslide damming.
Based on data, the families are from Purok Tinefulan.
“Matud pa may nakakita nga ang tubig napunong didto. Gikuha namu sila gibakwit diri,” Barangay Councilman Elmer Moscoso said.
The residents affected expressed concern after they were evacuated.
“Siyempre, sir, nabalaka gyud me kay kame nagtrabaho pud me sa gobyerno tapos nabalaka pud me sa among mga anak kay siyempre nabilin sa panimalay,” a resident affected, Nida Colle, said.
According to reports, the landslides reported in the area were a result of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Maasim, Sarangani on June 8.
“Paglinog unya niuyog kusog nga ulan didto na grabe ang landslide,” Moscoso added.
The local government has conducted clearing operations on Monday, July 6, 2026. The accumulated water in the mountains had already subsided.
Meanwhile, a resort near a creek hopes that the government will install riprap after the resort was damaged by the recent flooding.
A vehicle also got stuck in the mud in the area, while a swimming pool was filled with mud carried by floodwaters.
“Katung una-una niyang dagan sa baha ang iyang mga dala ato kawayan, punuan sa kahoy ,mao tu siya mibara sa atung tulay,” resort owner, Jun Escaran, said.
